Manually Set the Lead Time Zone for Repeating Events

Daylight Saving Time (DST) adds complexity when you’re scheduling across time zones. In different regions, DST starts and ends on different dates and times.

For repeating events, the lead time zone for the event series determines which DST rules to follow. That’s important because DST changes will affect event timing.

  • You create a weekly meeting that always starts at 3PM Paris time or 9AM New York time.
  • Since DST starts in New York weeks before it starts in Paris, the events in the series need to shift to match one of those time zones when DST changes the time difference between New York and Paris.
  • You can manually choose a lead time zone (e.g. New York or Paris) that will govern the timing of the event series.

Manually set the lead time zone

When you create a repeating event series, you can manually set the lead time zone.

The lead time zone will govern the time of the event. When DST occurs in the lead time zone, the time of the event in other time zones will be adjusted accordingly.

By default, the lead time zone for repeating events is the time zone currently displayed in your calendar when you create the event series.

To manually set the lead time zone:

  1. Create the event as usual.
  2. Click Repeats to set the repeating options.
  3. Click the blue time zone link in the Repeats dialog.
  4. Choose the lead time zone you want, then click OK.
  5. Save the event.

In the example above, the event will always start at 3 PM Paris time. For team members in New York, the event will start at 9 AM most of the year but at 10 AM for some part of March and part of November, as New York usually starts DST earlier and ends later than Paris.
