How to Duplicate a Calendar

When a Teamup Calendar works well for one team or project, a similar setup can work well for another team or project. Here’s how to duplicate an entire Teamup master calendar.

The calendar duplication feature

The calendar duplication feature allows you to “copy” the basic structure of an entire Teamup Calendar: the sub-calendar structure and basic configuration. Then you can adapt the duplicated calendar for your own use. Duplicating a calendar that’s already set up makes getting started with Teamup event faster and easier.

How to duplicate a Teamup Calendar

There are two ways to duplicate a calendar setup for a new calendar. To ensure data protection, note that events and sharing settings will not be duplicated.

Option 1: From the calendar settings

Calendar administrators can duplicate a calendar from the calendar settings.

The calendar settings, showing the General Settings screen, with a red box around the duplicate calendar section.

  1. Go to Settings > General Settings.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the General Settings dialog to the Duplicate Calendar section.
  3. Click the Duplicate button.
  4. On the next screen, check the options you want to duplicate from the source calendar:
  5. Click the green Duplicate button. A pop-up will appear once the source calendar has been duplicated:
  6. Click the link to open the duplicated calendar, or copy and paste the link into a new browser tab. Then click the green OK button to close the pop-up.
  7. The duplicated calendar will be automatically added to your dashboard.A user dashboard showing two calendar tiles, one for the original source calendar and one for the duplicated calendar.

A calendar administrator can create a shareable Template calendar link. This special template link can be used to duplicate the source calendar.

The Template link must fulfill the following conditions:

  • The link name must be Template.
  • It link must have Read-only permission assigned to all sub-calendars.

Calendar administrators:

  1. In the source calendar, go to Settings > Sharing.
  2. Click the Create Link button.
  3. On the following dialog, name the link Template.
  4. Scroll down to the Calendars Shared section and ensure that the Read-only permission is applied to All calendars:

The Create Link dialog in the calendar settings. Be sure to name the Template link correctly ("Template") and set the Read-only permission for All calendars.
  5. Click the green Save button. You will be returned to the main Sharing dialog.
  6. Locate the Template calendar link in the list of users and links.A Template calendar link can be used to duplicate the original calendar.
  7. See below for how to use the template link to duplicate a calendar.
  1. Copy the calendar key portion of the Template link. You will need it in the next step.
  2. Append the calendar key to the end of this link: https://teamup.com/calendars?template=
    • So the resulting link for the calendar key shown above would look like this: https://teamup.com/calendars?template=kssbg4q4yu532xdwn3
  3. Copy and paste the entire link into a browser tab to duplicate the calendar. You will be taken to a Calendar Creation screen.
  4. Set the options as needed, then click the green Create button. The original calendar will be copied with all sub-calendars and basic configuration.

You can use link parameters to adjust the displayed calendar name and template name in the Calendar Creation screen.

The following URL parameters are supported:

  • &name=My New Calendar
  • &templateName=Template Calendar
  1.  Append one or both parameters after the calendar key.
    • Here’s an example: https://teamup.com/calendars?template=kssbg4q4yu532xdwn3&name=My New Calendar&templateName=Template Calendar
  2. Paste the Template link with the desired parameters into a new browser tab.

You can create a customized calendar template link this way, with the template name and new calendar name set via parameters. Then you can use the template link to duplicate your own calendar or share the template link with others who want to copy your calendar’s structure and basic configuration. It’s a good way to set up similar calendars for various teams or departments within an organization, where the basic structure is the same.
